A Lamentable Loss

Author Michael McIntosh wrote: “It is a peculiar fact of sporting art it cannot be successfully faked. A sporting scene, if it aspires to any degree of acceptance, must not only reflect genuine experience on the artist’s part but must also evoke the memory and feeling of similar experience in the viewer.”

That quote appears on the website of Herb Booth, a renowned Texas-based wildlife artist whose work has appeared on this site for years, and it captures the authentic nature of his art perfectly. Sadly, we recently received word that Herb passed away unexpectedly in December. Herb was by all accounts a consummate outdoorsman, a devoted family man and a uniquely talented artist. I enjoyed every conversation we shared, especially our discussions on hunting and fishing. We were fortunate to know him, and our hearts go out to his family and friends.
