BROWN TROUT carving
This carving is the result of a layered and extremely time-consuming process. The basic form is roughly formed from poplar or basswood wood, then fine detail is created with gouges and thin chisels. The piece is then hand-sanded several times and sealed with a clear finish that acts as a priming agent for the paint. Accurate coloration and texture are captured in a meticulous process requiring six to seven coats of traditional artist oils — each individual scale receives four to five coats, and the final piece is covered in a coat of glossy varnish. The end result is an heirloom quality piece that captures the vitality and spirit of the species. Note that the image shown is a sample – each carving is created individually, so no two are exactly alike. Reverse side is flat for flush mounting, and features a wire for secure hanging. Each sculpture is signed and numbered by the artist. Measures 9 x 24".
This carving is individually crafted as ordered.
