REDFISH carving
This meticulously crafted wood carving is the product of patience and remarkable skill. The artist strives for a faithful scientific interpretation of the fish in regards to form and coloring, and the result is a stunning creation that fairly wiggles with life. Carving and the many hours of ensuing painting are performed in stages using natural daylight. Each piece is created one at a time and then mounted on a richly grained, hand-planed wood plaque with the species name hand-scripted on a hardwood nameplate. Peter Strong is a third-generation furniture maker who has designed and produced everything from jewelry boxes, Windsor chairs, and reproduction furniture to cabinets and architectural components. He is also accomplished in custom finish carpentry, ornamental restoration, stair building, and built-in cabinetry. That diversification proved taxing over time, however, and he is now content devoting himself to these exceptional game fish carvings.
